A Tale Of Love In Letters

Although I sometimes struggle with the idea of private letters being published, every so often curiosity rears its head. I give in to the guilty pleasure of peeking into the lives of talented, and sometimes misunderstood authors. Here are a few interesting ones to try:

The Letters of Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf
Dear, Dear Brenda- The Love Letters of Henry Miller to Brenda Venus
Ezra Pound and Dorothy Shakespear- Their Letters 1909-1914

Post-Valentine's Day Reading

LOVER- Embracing the Passionate Heart

With stories from O. Henry, Edgar Allen Poe, James Thurber, Mark Twain, and Ian Frazier, everyone will find an enjoyable story about love and maybe even find a new author to join their favorites.

The Oxford Book of Friendship- Chosen and edited by D.J. Enright & David Rawlinson

Full of wonderful quotes, letters, poems, and anecdotes, Oxford again delivers an impressive collection. This book is a compendium of where true love begins.

"Laughter is not at all a bad beginning for a friendship, and it is far the best ending for one.- Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Grey, 1891

The Illusionist comes to you from the producers of Sideways and Crash. It's being described as a romance flick, but pretty much every movie and book you read has some element of a relationship in it, so don't be scared away by the "L" word. It is largely a story of mystery, with strong acting, and an interesting story. The interesting story part comes from author Steven Millhauser. The film is based on the short story Eisenheim the Illusionist, from a short story collection The Barnum Museum. All of these stories are wonderful. If you like one, you will like them all.
